Dear Baileyblog readers,
I am six months late but better late than never to share with you what many of you already know: we installed a new Harriet Tubman statue as a part of the Downtown Binghamton Freedom trail in Binghamton, NY.
It was a most exciting and memorable day. Perhaps one of the happiest days of my life. It was the culmination of over 4 years work and it was a honor to work with the team at the Harriet Tubman Center, in particular, Associate Director, Dr. Sharon Bryant, and the Binghamton University administration and staff to bring this project to life.
At the unveiling on March 21 we had a rolling list of thank yous, but we won’t and can’t forget Governor Hochul’s $400,000 grant that made it possible for us to complete this project at this level.
Many many thanks too to the Binghamton community including Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham and the hundreds of people who participated and supported this project over the years.
Harriet Tubman legacy’s is your legacy now too as you have embraced her and the other abolitionist and civil rights heroes on the Freedom trail. This is the America I love and will always love.
In the months to come, we will be landscaping the area around Harriet with an eye to programming and engagement.
If you are in the area, please do come visit. You will be glad you did!

She inspired us then and is still inspiring us now.
With love,
