This weekend including today was the 160th anniversary of the largest slave auction in American history. I was thankful to be in Darien, Georgia to commemorate the occasion. The event was hosted by Butler Plantation descendants of the group African American Origins who also led tours of the estates. I read from my book, The Weeping Time: Memory and the Largest Slave Auction in American History, and took questions from the audience which also included school children.
For more on the event and the story of The Weeping time, here is an interview with Australia’s ABC radio that was live from earlier today.
